Training Programme Change of Location within South West

It is recognised that resident doctors/dentists may have unforeseen, significant changes in circumstances since the commencement of their current training programme. For residents in training, it might be possible to facilitate a move to another training location in the south west, within the same training programme, to accommodate these changes.

A change of location is not an entitlement.  Changes of location depend on there being vacancies in the programme within another zone of the south west.  When considering change of location requests the School must ensure that curriculum requirements can be met, no Trust/provider is left with insufficient resident doctors in training and that we comply with code of practice.

Each School manages its own change of location requests within the South West following the principles in the national inter-deanery transfer process Inter-Deanery Transfers (IDT) | Medical Hub  Priority will be given to those who meet the eligibility criteria 1-4.  Criteria 5 reasons for change of location are not routinely supported due to lack of space within the programme and the need to ensure we balance residents across our region to offer safe patient care. The final decision for training programme change of location lies with the Head(s) of School.

Criterion 1Ayou have developed a disability as defined by the Equality Act (2010)
Criterion 1Byou have developed a condition relating to mental health
Criterion 2you are the primary carer for someone who has a significant ill health and/or is disabled as defined by the Equality Act (2010)
Criterion 3you are the parent or legal guardian (including adoption) of a child under the age of 18 whose caring responsibilities have changed
Criterion 4you have had significant change in personal circumstances due to a committed relationship
Criterion 5you require a transfer within region for any other reason not covered by  criterion 1-4

Except in the case of an emergency, changes of location will be granted to coincide with a regular rotation date.  Requests may be managed in batches within a School, being viewed at fixed intervals during the training year.

Your Training Programme Director (TPD) or Foundation Programme Director (FPD) is the point of contact for all requests.
