Training Programme

Radiology training consists of a five-year full-time training programme in Clinical Radiology (6 years for IR or INR training)  commencing annually on 1st Wednesday of August, which when successfully completed will lead to the award of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT).

Training is based in departments of Radiology which have been approved for training by the Royal College of Radiologists, in the participating hospitals within the south west.

We have 70 Specialty Trainees in our Diagnostic Radiology Training Scheme, with up to 10 trainees joining us at ST1 level each August

Doctors in Training rotate all the hospitals in North of the region.

Each year has its own planned training programme and job rotation, as described in the menu options on the left of the home page. These are designed to give the trainees the best possible training for their year of experience. The first three years are geared towards passing the three stages of the FRCR examination. The final two years give the trainees increasing experience and responsibility to hone their radiological skills, and to develop specific sub-speciality interests.

At all stages of their training there is a strong encouragement for trainees to participate in Audit, Teaching, poster presentations and Research. There are opportunities for leadership, management and peer-teaching withing the School. The scheme has an excellent record of our graduates finding a post-CCT fellowship or Consultant Post of their choice.

We are a supportive training programme, which provides excellent clinical training and  supporting learning with Deanery teaching days.
