Each employing trust within the South West region has a designated SuppoRTT Champion (a consultant or GP) who oversees the return-to-work process. They liaise with the unit/department – particularly the Clinical Lead, College or Specialty Tutor and the ES prior to a resident doctors return to ensure appropriate support and enhanced supervision are in place.
While ongoing reviews sit with the educational supervisor, SuppoRTT Champions can provide additional guidance or support. They have detailed knowledge of local and regional support & resources including mentoring schemes, return to training events and they can refer directly to Occupational Health and the South West Professional Support & Wellbeing Team (PSW).
