SAS Tutors play a key role in supporting the education, development and wellbeing of Specialist, Specialty and Associate Specialist (SAS) doctors across NHS organisations in the South West. Funded by NHS England, SAS Tutors work with local postgraduate medical education teams to champion the needs of SAS doctors, promote career development opportunities, and help create an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
They provide guidance on professional development pathways, leadership and education opportunities, support local SAS networks, and act as an important link between SAS doctors, medical education teams and NHS England. Through this work, SAS Tutors help ensure SAS doctors are empowered to develop their careers and achieve their full potential.
Our SAS Tutor Handbook (January 2026) is a useful resource for current and aspiring SAS Tutors.
