The Peninsula Foundation School, based in Devon and Cornwall, is an excellent place to train and live. We offer a wide range of posts across varied settings and are confident you will find a high-quality training experience that provides a strong foundation for your career as a doctor.
At the Peninsula Foundation School, we aim to provide a broad range of training opportunities across acute trusts, mental health trusts, and primary care.
We want our foundation doctors to feel part of a wider training community, and we have developed a regional teaching programme for Foundation Year 2 doctors. This offers excellent education and opportunities to network with peers across the Peninsula and, at times, with our other South West Foundation School, Severn.
- Our two-year programmes are mainly delivered through our five acute trusts in Devon and Cornwall.
- Community and psychiatry placements are delivered by various mental health trusts, primary care providers and public health.
- Please note that these placements are not based at our acute trust locations, and some travel between sites may be required. GP practices serve the wider community across our geography and are located throughout Devon and Cornwall.
Foundation Training in the Peninsula
The Foundation Programme follows a national Curriculum that is used by all Foundation Schools across the UK.
To help you achieve the competencies set out in the curriculum, we will ensure that, as a Foundation doctor in the Peninsula, you:
- Work within an approved programme
- Have designated educational and clinical supervisors
- Have access to up-to-date clinical skills facilities
- Receive support and feedback
- Benefit from a regional F2 teaching programme
- Receive Advanced Life Support training
You will develop the generic skills required of every doctor, alongside professional skills such as communication, teamwork, and the use of evidence and data.
