Designated supervisor (DS): Designated Supervisor, a pharmacist responsible for overseeing and signing off on the learning outcomes of a trainee pharmacist. They should be a source of advice and guidance and will work to support the trainee in meeting the learning outcomes.
Designated Prescribing professional (DPP): A Designated Prescribing Professional (DPP) is a healthcare professional with legal independent prescribing rights who will mentor and supervise a trainee pharmacist during their independent prescribing (IP) course and provides ‘sign-off’ on their competency to prescribe.
A DPP will determine if prescribing activities have been completed to a satisfactory standard and ensure that at least 90 hours of learning focussed on prescribing capabilities have been completed, alongside regularly updating the trainees DS on their progress.
