Inter-Foundation School Transfer (IFST)

The IFST process has been designed to support transfers in cases where individual circumstances have changed since the point of initial allocation.

F1 doctors working as part of a two-year programme can apply for a transfer to take effect from the start of their F2 year, and for current medical school graduates/applicants to the two-year programme can apply for a transfer to take effect from the beginning of their foundation programme.

It is recognised that situations will arise outside of this process, therefore the option to apply for a transfer due to exceptional circumstances throughout the course of the programme will continue to be available.

Eligibility

The criteria for applying for a transfer between foundation schools are similar to the criteria for applying for pre-allocation (i.e. special circumstances) to a particular foundation school as part of the national foundation application process.

Applicants and current foundation doctors in the South West considering applying for an Inter-Foundation School Transfer must read the detailed guidance provided by the UKFP.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, please download the IFST application form from the UKFP website and submit it to your Foundation School Manager. Applications must be submitted to the allocated or current Foundation School.

Application Window

The window for IFST applications will be published by the UKFP on their website.
