SPEX FAQs

Support for Performance and Exams.

It is a highly successful, evidence-based intervention to help Doctors in Training improve communication skills, learn to “Consult like a GP”, provide revision support for AKT and RCA exams, based on the award-winning HEE North West Support on Extension Programme.

SPEX SCA is offered whilst in ST3.

SPEX SCA includes an introduction session and a tutorial with the trainee, their ES and a specially trained SPEX educator. Prior to the tutorial the SPEX educator will watch three consultation recordings made by the trainee and offer advice on consultation skills with the SCA in mind. This is a one-off tutorial and the suggestions are taken forward by the trainee with support from the ES.
