Education Funding Agreement (EFA)

The EFA workstream plays a pivotal role in ensuring the provision of high-quality education and training for healthcare learners.  As mandated in the Care Act 2014, NHS England is responsible for overseeing healthcare education for both current and future staff, ensuring quality and safety of learners and service users.

The workstream significantly contribute annually to the delivery of non-competitive education and training services, which represent a substantial portion of the Education and Training Activity Programmes (approx. 75% of the ETAP budget annually).

Every three years, we develop and publish the EFA forms, adhering to Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) and NHS England policies and establishing standards for our core non-competitive education funding programmes in England.

The workstream is also responsible for approving new EFA services, as well as working with Budget owners and EFA Users across England to manage their programmes and agreements.

By working together, we strive to add value to our colleagues and stakeholders, ensuring the NHS continues to provide exceptional education and training opportunities that meet the highest standards of quality and safety for learners.
